Don't neglect internally-displaced children: UN

Radhika Coomaraswamy, the special representative of the United Nations secretary-general for children and armed conflict, has said that greater attention needs to be paid to the plight of internally-displaced children in countries, including in Sri Lanka, who are among the most vulnerable groups affected by armed conflict.

"It is argued by many that it is the proliferation of small arms contributing to their ready availability in the period 1970 2000, which has led to the phenomenon of child soldiers as we know it today," the United Nations envoy on children and armed conflict, Radhika Coomaraswamy, said.
